- WebMD, a health information site, which has a market capitalization of over $2.8 billion and nearly 35 million unique monthly visitors.
The numbers are astonishing. And what is the potential of this part of the information industry? A single anecdote will give you a quick idea...
YouTube.Com, founded only last spring, was said to be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 million earlier this summer. Now, in August, following its continued explosion in popularity, a New York Post report indicates the current market value at about one billion dollars. All this from one single idea, in about 18 months!
When a business has that kind of success, you can be sure there will be many, many imitators. Already, in fact, Google is reworking its video site... Guba.Com has signed deals with Sony and Warner Brothers... and start-up Eefoof.Com is offering to pay contributors depending on how many viewers a video attracts.
